At Home Sweet Home, our impact goes far beyond furniture. As a nonprofit furniture bank, we help individuals and families emerging from crisis find stability, dignity, and hope. Because each client chooses their own furnishings, they’re able to personalize their space and truly make it their own.
But the impact doesn’t stop there. We give new life to gently-used items—extending the life cycle of furniture and household goods by placing them in homes where they’re needed most. Donors can trust that their pre-loved pieces will be cherished by another family, not sent to a landfill.
This work connects St. Louis in powerful ways. Donors, volunteers, corporate teams, congregations, school groups, and families in need all come together through Home Sweet Home. It’s about more than things—it’s about people coming together to furnish hope.

CLIENT IMPACT
We serve people from all walks of life—young adults aging out of foster care, families rebuilding after homelessness, refugees, veterans, and so many others. Often, our connection with each client is brief: we meet them, help them choose the furnishings that will make their space feel like home, deliver everything the next day, and wish them well on their journey.
Though our time together is short, the impact can last a lifetime.
Because of the nature of our work, we don’t always hear what happens next. But sometimes, a client reaches back out to share how their experience with Home Sweet Home made a difference.
One client recently sent us a letter describing her journey from homelessness to stability, and how the simple act of choosing her own dishes, cookware, and furniture helped her feel in control of her life again. Today, she’s earning her master’s degree in social work—and still uses the same plates she chose at our warehouse.

TRANSFORMING LIVES & OUR ENVIRONMENT
Each year, we divert thousands of gently-used furniture pieces and household items from landfills. By giving them a second life in the homes of families who need them, we are creating new beginnings while reducing waste.
We try to ensure we are repurposing as much as we can. Items that aren’t a fit for our clients are passed along to other local nonprofits, like the Humane Society, Miriam’s Switching Post, and thrift stores, so they can still make a difference. We also partner with Ace Metal Recycling and Remains Fabric Recycling to responsibly dispose of materials that can’t be reused. And thanks to a few creative volunteers, even broken furniture and scrap wood get transformed into something new and useful.
From reuse to recycling, sustainability is a huge part of our work—because creating a more compassionate community means taking care of our environment, too.
