Volunteer Coordinator

FLSA (Fair Standards Act) Status: Part time; $18.81 Hourly      

SUMMARY: The mission of Home Sweet Home is to give families their sense of pride and improve the quality of their lives by providing basic household furnishings.  Operating with Non-Profit Partners, Home Sweet Home clients are able to shop for furniture and household items and then those items are delivered to families in St. Louis city and St. Louis County.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Develop, promote, and maintain a wide range of volunteer opportunities within the organization

  • Survey staff regularly to assess needs for volunteer assistance
  • Maintain Volunteer Service Descriptions for each volunteer assignment
  • Ensure volunteers are staffed to support the various areas of operations, including warehouse, deliveries, admin, and special events
  • Recommend the most efficient use of volunteers, appropriate volunteer/supervisory mix, and future workforce needs to support volunteer program operations
  • Conduct and/or arrange for volunteer orientation and training, including unconscious bias training
  • Schedule all volunteer activity
  • Develop and manage volunteer policies, procedures, and standards of volunteer service
  • Organize and participate in volunteer recognition programs and special events
  • Evaluate all aspects of volunteer programs to ensure effectiveness and to recommend/implement changes as appropriate
  • Maintain accurate records and provide timely statistical and activity reports on volunteer participation

Recruit, interview and place applicants for volunteer work

  • Host and attend recruiting events within the community to attract qualified candidates
  • Find opportunities to publicize opportunities for volunteers
  • Develop and maintain relationships with other volunteer organizations within the area
  • Coordinate with current faith groups, corporations, and other organizations to further engage their volunteers, as well as recruit from new groups

Provide ongoing support and guidance for volunteers

  • Act as a single point of contact for volunteers and volunteer groups
  • Confer with volunteers to resolve grievances and promote cooperation and interest

Communication and messaging

  • Author weekly volunteer communications
  • Facilitate distribution of information relevant to volunteers
  • Author written communications such as letters, organizational practices, instructions, flyers, or other media, as appropriate

GENERAL 

  • Effectively share Home Sweet Home’s Mission and Values with volunteers and community
  • Demonstrate close attention to detail, strong organizational and time management skills, and the ability to manage multiple responsibilities.
  • Hold themselves accountable; maintain consistency
  • Ability to create structure, implement new strategies, and train volunteer team on effective communication
  • Network with members of the local business/philanthropic community and fellow non-profit organizations to increase awareness for our mission, attract financial support, and discover/implement new initiatives adaptable for Home Sweet Home 
  • Other tasks and responsibilities as required

REQUIREMENTS

  • Organized, self-motivated and committed individual who can work with minimal supervision, manage multiple priorities, and work in a deadline-driven environment
  • Excellent verbal, written and presentation skills
  • Maintain a professional appearance and attitude
  • Ability to work Monday through Friday as well as occasional weekends or events
  • Able to influence people in positive ways for mutual benefit
  • Must be patient and kind as we are working with at-risk population
  • Able to pass all background checks

SCHEDULE

Primarily M-F 8:30-3:30, occasional weekends and nights
